Nice shots tg1911. I have these kind of lens as well. A free lens of my NIKON D5000 body bought it Japan through online.

Great for portrait and bird photography.

Thank you, sierrachello.
Yeah, these lenses are OK for Kit Lenses, but there's no comparison between them and the better quality lenses.
I bought me a Nikon AI AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D prime, the other day.
The difference in image quality between the 50, and my 2 kit lenses, just blew me away.
Tack sharp!!

So, now it's time to start saving for better glass. :)
I've already got my eye on a couple of better quality lenses.
A Nikon Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Macro Lens for portraits, and macro photography, and a Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG APO OS HSM for wildlife photography.

You are correct. Fifty-nifty keeps your image very sharp and great depth of field.

You can use your 18-55mm kitlens as a MACRO lens. You can also get a very shallow bokeh.

I would rather have a dedicated Macro lens, than to use the 18-55 with a reversing ring.
I'm not real happy with the image quality, of the kit lenses.
Just not up to the standards of a high quality, dedicated Macro lens.

I've seen images taken using the Nikkor 105, and they were impressive.
The Tokina 100mm Macro Lens, and the Sigma 105-mm Macro Lens, also produce some really sharp images.
I'd be happy with any one of these lenses. :)

Share your macro pics soon using a dedicated Macro lens. I cannot wait to see the result from a real macro lens.

These are my collections:
50mm AF-S 1.8f NIKKOR Prime Lens
18-55mm NIKKOR with Reverse Ring or Extension Tube
Tamron 18-250mm LD
55-200mm NIKKOR VR

tg1911 and sierrachello, thanks to both of you for sharing technical information. Here is my simple point and shoot set up. Compact Sony HX20V perched on a 'gorilla pod'.(Very useful accessory.) The dog lead is my improvisation for a 'rope monopod'. I keep the camera at hand so if I see something interesting I take pics. The best thing about digital photography is being able to delete the really awful stuff instantly! Otherwise I hope to take clear snapshots for reference and conversation purposes.

Oh and here is a bird - male Magpie - a bird with attitude. He owns the territory around the place where I live.

Hi pixiecat,

I thought you might be interested to see what one of those cockatoo villains gets up to at my place. This snap was difficult because of backlighting from the sky but no matter. It records the event and shows how potentially destructive these birds can be. On old houses they have been known to remove nails from roofing. This one just wanted to demolish the TV antenna. No it didn't manage to undo the screws but certainly tried!

At first i thought you meant "Shot a Few Birds Today" as in "pew pew". These pictures are even better!
